Good Weather Brings in the Subadults

The first pair of sub adults have arrived at my colony here in Essex, Ontario on May 19, 2019 and are attempting to select a cavity. The colony still has a surplus of ASY males causing difficulties with the paired ASY females as they bring nesting material to their cavities. Nevertheless, the martins have come through the bad weather and are out finding insects and enjoying the better weather conditions. Some ASY males are gathering fresh leaves for their nests as can be seen from the header photo. Steve Dickson was generous enough to provide this beautiful photo.
